Lake Fork Fishing Report

This week on Lake Fork The water level is about full pool and the temp. is hovering around 80 degrees. Late spring or early summer what ever you call it I call it one of the best times to fish Lake Fork. The fish are on the feed and the weather is getting more stable and this means good fishing. One of the best things is just about anything will catch fish this time of year.
We are starting out with top waters. Yellow Magic's has been the best popper for us. These bait is the go to top water bait. It has a long feathered tail that undulates when you stop the bait and this is all of the trigger the fish need. You hardly move it for post spawn fish. They will blow up on it with it sitting still because of the feather tail.
If the fish are feeding good you can pop it fast to imitate the shad. This bait will spit water a foot without making the traditional ca-bloop sound. The fish love it. Yellow Magic poppers can be purchased at Mustang Resort off of hwy. 17 between Little Mustang creek and Big Mustang creek. The Yellow Magic on most days out fishes pop r's 10 to 1.
The frog bite is in full swing. When a fish misses the frog and this happens allot throw a fluke type bait on a weighted hook back into the boil and hang on. If a fish misses the frog it will most likely deny further presentations of the frog but will bite the fluke almost every time.
Also on the menu is Carolina rigged brush hogs in any watermelon colors along with Texas rigged worms. Fish these out to 20'. The crankbait bite is another good choice along with jigs.For you deep water enthusiast the spoon and tail kicker bite is getting better.
Well there you have it. Fish are being caught from top to deep water bottom on almost any bait. Now tell me would you rather be fishing or mowing the rapidly growing lawn?
